Track & Field's high jumper is an excellent metaphor when examining the impact of rumination on athletic performance. The jumper image shows us the moment in time when the athlete overcomes the unproductive habit of focusing on past failures or perceived barriers to future success. When the athlete learns the BWT processes to build resilience– to allow failures to become stepping stones to success rather than pebbles in their shoes– this is the moment in time when she clears the invisible barrier to the success she so fervently desires.
BWT's model for predicting an athlete's quality potential is depicted above. You will note the presence of "Psychological" as the final element in the equation. This refers directly to the player's ability to escape rumination and embrace resilience.
Our resilience training can enable athletes to quickly master what BWT Resilience has termed “thought stopping” – a friendly, easy-to-grasp term for stopping rumination. Experience has proven this approach effective at raising athletic performance among teams and individuals.
